Mr. William Thurmond Ford, age 84, of Todd, died Tuesday at Twin County Medical Center in Galax, VA.

Frederick Ernest Loeb

Frederick Ernest Loeb, D. Aug. 13, 2012
Mr. Frederick Ernest Loeb age 69, of West Jefferson, NC died on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Loeb was born on April 9, 1943 in MI to Christian and Freida Isabelle Loeb. Mr. Loeb was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Loeb loved gardening, working in his yard, fishing and hunting.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, prior to the service.

5 Sons: Frederick Wayne Loeb and wife Peggy, Chris Loeb, William Loeb, James Loeb and wife Teresa, Roger Malone and wife Sharon all of DE

13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Howard Rufus Riley age 91, of Creston, NC died Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson, NC. Rev. Riley was born April 22, 1921 in Creston, NC to John and Elizabeth Craven Riley. Rev. Riley was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. Rev. Riley Served during WWII in the Navy. He served as pastor of Mtn. View Independent Methodist Church for 23 years. He loved to garden and attend church.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:30 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tommy Stephens, Rev. Ricky Mitchell & Brother Anthony Roark. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm on Wednesday, prior to the service.

1 daughter: Darlene Greer and husband Harold of Creston

Grandson: Travis Greer and wife Tonya of Millers Creek

Cora Mae Hall Pennington

Cora Mae Hall, D. Aug. 10, 2012
Mrs. Cora Mae Hall Pennington age 94, of Laurel Springs, NC died on Friday, August 10, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Pennington was born on March 12, 1918 in Jefferson, NC to Roy and Dema Wyrick Hall. Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by, her parents, one son, Gilbert Dean Pennington, husband, Carl Pennington, one sister and seven brothers. Mrs. Pennington was a member of Transou Christian Church. She loved cooking, working in her garden, sewing, flowers, watching birds and her cats. Mrs. Pennington had a loving heart and never had a harsh word for anyone. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. She will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3:30 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lonnie Pruitt. Burial will follow in Roans Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pennington is survived by: one son, James Pennington and fiancée Joyce of Millers Creek, NC, seven daughters, Jenny Griffin and fiancée Martin of Wilkesboro, NC, Bessie Hodges and husband Charlie of Sparta, NC, Margie Wagoner and husband Cecil of Laurel Springs, NC, Mary Sebastian and husband Curtis of Hayes, NC, Fannie Chandler and husband Andy of Millers Creek, NC, Dema Pennington and fiancée Norman of Pilot Mountain, Barbara Calloway and fiancée Keith of Wilkesboro, NC, one sister, Maude Bare of Glendale Springs, NC also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charles A. Smith, age 79, of Charlotte died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel Springs with the family members officiating.
Mr. Smith is survived by:
1 – Sister – Shirley Kelly of Abingdon, Maryland
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
