Winfred Felix Barr, age 85, of West Jefferson, died Monday July 31, 2012 at Wake Forest Medical Baptist Center.

Mr. Barr was born in Ashe County on September 10, 1926 to the late Basil Duke Barr and Mabel Phillips.
Mr. Barr is survived by his wife, Mary A Barr; two daughters; Debra Darland of Delta Junction, Alaska and Cheryl Filla of La Porte Minnesota; one brother; Basil Duke Barr, Jr. of Elizabethton, TN; one sister; Nena Barr Shepard of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mabry Hall King, age 92 of Fleetwood passed away Tuesday afternoon at her home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with David Thomas King, Arthur Ray, and Peter Shepherd officiating. Burial will be private.

William Everette Woodie, D. July 31, 2012
Mr. William Everette Woodie age 83, of West Jefferson, NC died on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home. Mr. Woodie was born on March 15, 1929 in Ashe County to Everette and Ella Mae Black Woodie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ken Morris and David VanHoy. Burial will follow in West Jefferson Cemetery with military rites.

Mrs. Ruth Roland Tribble, age 87, of Millers Creek, formerly of Ashe County passed away Monday evening, July 30, 2012 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Shannon Critcher and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Tribble was born in Ashe County Friday on April 17, 1925 to Walter Alexander Roland and Bertie Albina Miller Roland.
Mrs. Tribble is survived by two sons, Michael Tribble and wife Magdalene of Millers Creek, Ron Tribble and wife Lois of Draper, VA; one daughter, Pat Fowler and husband Bill of Millers Creek; one brother; Frank Roland of Warrensville.

Mr. Elmer Riley Stewart age 89, of Creston, NC went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, July 29, 2012. He had been a resident of the Margate Health & Nursing Facility of Jefferson, NC. Mr. Stewart was born on July 15, 1923 in Creston, NC to the late Samuel Stewart and Emma Mae Stewart.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev.Tommy Stephens and Rev. Chris Goodman. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

He also was proceeded in death by his wife Eyvonne Roark Stewart this past May 12, 2012, 4 brothers: Robert Stewart of Creston, NC, R. E. Stewart of Granite Falls, Delemer Stewart of Mtn. City, TN, Ronald Stewart, Creston, NC, Sister: Mae Thomas, Mtn. City, TN, Ruby Stewart, Creston, NC, and great-grandson Kody Mullis.
Elmer was an avid Farmer and retired from Sprague Electric with 25 years of Service, Lansing, NC as a Security Guard and Boiler Room Foreman. He enjoyed wood working especially making bird-houses, apple crates and anything else he could cobble on relating to wood. He had a passionate love for life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved riding motor-cycles on his farm checking fences and attending to his cattle, along with working with his farm machinery, flea-marketing , attending his Church: Sutherland United Methodist. He lived his dream by touring the “West” with his wife and visiting the “Holy Lands.” He was a man with a heart for God and loved sharing His word with others. His memories will forever be cherished by all of those who knew and loved him. He and his wife “Eyvonnie” are united “Together Forever” in Heaven and will be sadly missed.
The family will be meeting at the homeplace on 131 Sutherland Road, Creston, NC following the graveside services on Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012. Mr. Harold Franklin Beard Jr. age 84, of Creston, NC died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at theWilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, NC. Mr. Beard was born April 25, 1928 in Cambridge, VT to Harold Franklin Sr. and Eunnice Prior Beard. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Hubert Beard, Lois Beard. He loved golf, gardening, maple syrup and his dog. He served his country in the US Army.

Mrs. Sturgill was born in Ashe County on August 3, 1917 to the late Ferdanio Curtis Sturgill and Saferna Grogan.
She is preceded in death by her husband Denver Lee Sturgill and a grandson Eric Sturgill.
Mrs. Sturgill is survived by one son; Gary Sturgill of Boone; one daughter; Carol Cornette of High Point; three grandchildren; Greg Cornette and wife Karen of Todd, Bonita Page of High Point, and Debra Ivery and husband Jeff of High Point; five great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. D.G. Stout age 90, of West Jefferson, died on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stout was born on October 11, 1921 in Butler, Tennessee to Donald Garfield and Stella Smith Stout. Mr. Stout was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life for over 50 years his wife, Maude Payne Stout. Mr. Stout was a West Jefferson business man, owner and operator of City Shoe Shop for over 60 years. He was a faithful and dedicated member of West Jefferson First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. When he was away from his shop he often could be found fishing or maintaining his yard. He was a friend to all that knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 am at the West Jefferson First Baptist Church. Officiating will be The Pastor Rev. Michael Lea and The Rev. Ken Morris. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.

Nolan Walters, D. July 17, 2012
Mr. Nolan Hartzog Walters, age 32, of West Jefferson departed from his life Tuesday night, July 17, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
An open invitation graveside service will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2pm at Dickson cemetery in Grassy Creek, North Carolina with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Peter Parish officiating.
The family will receive friends at his home, 210 Wickzola Lane, West Jefferson.
Nolan was born in Watauga County to Sally Hartzog Walters and the late Donald Kyle Walters. He attended Beaver Creek High School, class of 1998, then four years of college at Appalachian State University. He and his wife, Fran met and fell in love the summer of 1998 and were married September 4, 2005, subsequently being blessed with their three beautiful children. Nolan’s unending love for his wife and children will forever be admired and remembered. Nolan was a strong, faithful, loyal, and a hard working Christian man. His work ethic, honesty, and Christian values will be embedded in the lives of his three children forever. Nolan was a successful self-built business man, having begun building his business, Circle W Tree Farms at the young age of 16. He knew the Christmas tree business like the back of his hand, offering insight and information willingly to anyone who called upon him for advice. Nolan also loved to grow other crops, having past potato, pumpkin, cabbage, and tobacco crops, as well as having cattle. He loved farming and working outdoors. Nolan was past President of the Ashe County Christmas Tree Growers Association and a past Deacon of his church. Nolan’s unwavering faith was one of his countless attributes and will allow our hearts to be at ease that he is no longer suffering and is better off than we are in this life. May we find solace in the fact we will see his sweet beautiful smile in Heaven again someday. Continuing in the tradition of his willingness to help a friend or stranger in need, Nolan will continue to live on countless other people, as he was an organ donor and donated many of his vital organs after his passing to benefit those in need of life saving operations.
Nolan is survived by his wife Fran Woodie Walters, of the home; and three beautiful children; Riley Sue Walters, Ellie Kate Walters, and Johnson Huck Walters, all also of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Sally Walters of Fleetwood and was preceded in death by his father, Kyle Walters when Nolan was only six months old. Also surviving are his sister, Donna Pierce and husband Andy Pierce of Fleetwood; two nephews; Andrew and Caleb Pierce; and one niece, Melody Pierce. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Tim and Sandy Shatley of Crumpler; his grandfather-in-law, James W. Johnson of Grassy Creek and countless close friends and loved ones.

Mr. Weaver was born on June 28, 1953 in Ashe County, NC to the late Letch and Ressie Wyatt Weaver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Sue Carpenter Weaver and a sister, Mary Blevins. Mr. Weaver loved to rabbit hunt. He was a member of Gillespie Community Church.
