In the process of passing another motorcyclist, Christopher Thomas Higgins, 51, ran off the road, collided into a culvert and flipped multiple times with his motorcyle, according to a spokesman with the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on old U.S. 421, which is the road on which Higgins resides. According to reports, witnesses on the scene found him not breathing and performed CPR in hopes of reviving Higgins.
