Youth Showcase and Max ‘The Magician’ Midgett to Perform at the Jones House Friday Evening

Sept. 4, 2012. The Town of Boone continues the 2012 Concerts at the Jones House series with a special Youth Showcase evening, featuring local youth and one recent Watauga High School graduate.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with The Pizzicato Quartet, a classical guitar foursome featuring WHS junior Grayson Fenwick, WHS freshman Mary Seramur, Green Valley eighth grader Ethan Fenwick and Hardin Park seventh grader Elaine Mansure. The four are students of Justin Butler at the ASU Community School of Music, and they have performed together at the Watauga Education Foundation’s Shooting Stars talent show, ASU Community School of Music recital and the ASU Guitar Concert. They have been playing together for about a year-and-a-half and enjoy the camaraderie and opportunity to expand their repertoires to include ensemble arrangements.

Sarah McGuire will take to the porch following the quartet, accompanied by her father, Mark McGuire on acoustic guitar. Sarah is a recent graduate of Watauga High School, who is now attending Lees-McRae College. During her years at Cove Creek Elementary and WHS, Sarah participated in chorus and as a member of Playmaker. She performed in Shooting Stars six times. An inspiring author and songwriter, Sarah’s performance will include some of her own compositions.

Max “The Magician” Midgett will follow Sarah McGuire, bringing the first magic show to the summer concert series in the 20-year history of the performances. Max has been doing magic for several years, including a handful of performances in the Shooting Stars program. His act combines magic and comedy and will include some audience participation.

The evening will conclude with a string band performance by The Burnett and Cockman Sisters, a group including Kathleen and Anissa Burnett on fiddles, Arwen and Lorien Cockman on guitar and Dobro and John Cockman on bass. Both sisters perform with respective family bands, in addition to combining efforts for various performances and competitions, such as the annual Fiddler’s Grove festival in Union Grove. Their performance will feature excellent musicianship and harmony singing.
