The Watauga High Pioneer Band Booster Club has announced it will reopen the Dewey’s Bakery Holiday Store for the third year in a row. This year’s store will be located at 125 New Market Drive right next to Jersey Mike’s in New Market Center and will run from Nov. 16 through Dec. 23. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.  The store will be closed on Thanksgiving day.FullSizeRender (1)

A community favorite for the last two years, the holiday store will feature fresh baked Moravian sugar cakes, rolls and cookies, as well as a full line of other Dewey’s bakery products including classics like cheese straws and ginger spice cookies. Special order items like pastries, cakes, pies and tarts will be available again this year. Free samples of selected products will be offered every day.

“It has been very popular in the community the last couple years and it is a very meaningful fundraiser for our wonderful band students,” said Terry Dolbier, vice president for the WHS pioneer band boosters. “We love them and are inspired by them.”

Dewey’s, an iconic bakery located in Winston-Salem, is famous for its Moravian baked goods.  Their delicious recipes have been baked the same way for generations and are time-honored traditions for special occasions and holidays.

The holiday store has become one of the biggest fundraisers for The Pioneer Band Booster Club and is vital to its ability to support the award-winning WHS band programs, including: marching band, percussion ensemble, concert band, wind ensemble and jazz band.  Proceeds from all sales will help provide for travel expenses, music purchases, instrument purchase and repairs, scholarship funds, uniform replacement and other equipment needs.

“The funding is significant because when we first organized we didn’t have many projects we could undertake to support it,” said Dolbier. “We were limited in our ability to provide for things such as music purchase, repairs, travel expenses and uniforms. Uniforms alone are very expensive and many of ours are over 20 years old while they’re designed to last only eight.”

You can follow the store on Facebook at “Watauga Band Boosters Club/Dewey’s Bakery Holiday Store” for updated offers and information.  The Pioneer bands invite everyone to come out to WHS’ Ross Auditorium and enjoy the Jazz Band Holiday Concert on Dec. 3 and the Concert Band/Orchestra Holiday Concert on Dec. 10.  All concerts are free to the public and begin at 6 p.m.
