Emmy Winning Mystery Novel Author will Close Out Belk Library Summer Series Aug. 16

Aug. 2, 2012. Mark de Castrique, author of eight mystery novels set in western North Carolina, will speak at Belk Library and Information Commons at Appalachian State University on Thursday, Aug. 16. His presentation will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Room 421. A book signing and reception will follow.

His presentation is the last in the 2012 Summer Author Series sponsored by the library. For more information, call Lynn Patterson at 828-262-2807.

De Castrique’s two mystery series involve an undertaker, “Buryin’ Barry,” and a detective, Sam Blackman, whose cases involve historic sites in Asheville.  de Castrique’s new book, “The 13th Target,” involves a terrorist plot against the Federal Reserve.

His novels have received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and Booklist. The Chicago Tribune wrote, “As important and as impressive as the author’s narrative skills are the subtle ways he captures the geography – both physical and human – of a unique part of the American South.”

De Castrique, a veteran of the broadcast and film production business, was awarded an Emmy for his documentary film work.

Parking for the event is available in the library deck. During construction on College Street, it can be accessed by taking Howard Street from Hwy. 321 to the deck entrance or turning off King Street at the driveway next to the Turchin Center.
