Aug. 1, 2012. Every week from May to October you will find quality locally farmed meats, organic produce, fresh cut flowers and hardy local plants, delicous edibles and a wide variety of crafts.
Special Events this Saturday include live music from The Sheets Family Band, Face painting with Bryony Renouf from “Birdie Birdie”…..delightful veggies, vines & flowers beautifully drawn at the Kid’s Corner next to the Powderhorn Theater.
This Saturday at the market our vendors will be offering:
A variety of heirloom tomatoes including red and yellow brandywine, zapotec, Cherokee purple and chocolate stripes, haricot verts and blue and red potatoes from Zydeco Moon Farm.
Certified organic micro greens, mixed lettuce, lacinato kale, red chard, bull’s blood beets, eggplant (machiaw, hansel, fairy tale), cucumbers (lemon, diva), and heirloom tomatoes (cherry and slicing) from Sunshine Cove Farm.
Free range, certified organic and GMO-free grain fed whole chickens, chicken breast, and fully cooked hickory smoked chicken halves. grassfed (no grain given) lamb chops, lamb roasts, leg of lamb, and our signature lamb sausages in Italian, Bratwurst, and Chorizo. Specialty sodas including our handcrafted root beer made from our special blend of natural roots, spices and herbs, organic sugar and local molasses. We will also have our cajeta (goat milk caramel) mustard made using our farms goat milk, our farm-made apple cider vinegar, and our honey. Also organic jams and our excellent heirloom tomato confit made with our heirloom tomatoes, local organicand onions, and local organic hot sweet peppers from Wild Pilgrim Farmstead.
Candy onions, lime basil and cut flowers: mixtures of dahlias, zinnias, gladiolas, and new this week purple lisianthus from Shady Grove Gardens.
Organic roma beans, four varieties of potatoes, large bunches of basil, radicchio, and four kinds of garlic from Fog Likely Farm.
Sourwood honey, sunflowers in a wide variety of colors and sizes, colorful zinnias, signature whole grain breads baked from freshly ground certified chemical free flour, a variety of muffins that include triple chocolate, glorious morning, blueberry, and lemon poppyseed, and high-energy chewy balls and granola from Faith Mountain Farm.
Watermelons, romano beans, cantaloupe, blueberrys, lots of great eggplant and squash and pseticide-free basil from Moretz Mountain Orchard
Wednesday Market is Open!
Don’t forget that every Wednesday you can find some of the same wonderful local foods and produce at our Wednesday Market from 8 a.m. to noon at Horn in the West.
The 2012 High Country Farm Tour
Visit some of the farms that sell at Watauga County Farmers’ Market (including Creeksong Farm, Faith Mountain Farm, Mountain Works Farm, Zydeco Moon Organic Farm, Ripshin Goat Dairy, Maverick Farm, Moretz’s Mountain Orchard, New Life Farm, Springhouse Farm and Watauga River Farm) on this year’s High Country Farm Tour on August 4 – 5th, 2-6 p.m. The Farm Tour is also seeking volunteers, offering a bike tour and for the first time, offering a special VIP-guided tour with a special guest for new or future farmers.
