Weekly Watauga Farmers’ Market Update; Local Produce and Fruits on Sale This Saturday

July 11, 2012. This Saturday at the Watauga County Farmers’ Market, a number of vendors will have a variety of seasonal local produce and fresh fruits from High Country farms and orchards on sale for customers.

A variety of heirloom tomatoes including Cherokee purple, chocolate stripes, red and yellow brandywine, and the new indigo rose, squash, and red and blue potatoes will be offered for sale from Zydeco Moon Organic Farm.

Lemon cucumbers, patty pan squash, lacinato kale, red chard, bull’s blood beets, micro greens, and “hopefully” some cherry tomatoes from Sunshine Cove Farm will be available for purchase.

Organic Roma green beans (described as stringless, meaty and flavorful beans), garlic, dill, basil and several varities of lettuce and new potatoes will be put up for sale by Fog LIkely Farm.

Apples, blackberries, napa cabbage, snap beans, lettuce leaf basil, tarragon and eggplant will be sold in addition to the normal fare from Moretz Mountain Orchard.

Herb transplants including cut flowers such as sweet peas, zinnia, dahlias and ‘Picasso’ calla lilies will be offered from Shady Grove Gardens and Nursery.

The Watauga County Farmer’s Market also holds a weekly market every Wednesday from 8 to noon at the Horn in the West parking lot in Daniel Boone Park.

The Farmers’ Market runs rain or shine, every Saturday morning May through October from 8 a.m. until noon, and every
Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until noon June through September, and is always held in the Horn in the West parking lot.
