Carlton Gallery’s Holiday Open House: Carlton Gallery begins its 31st Anniversary Winter Exhibition in a festive ambiance with a two-day holiday open house on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Gallery owner, Toni Carlton, extends an invitation for everyone to start their holiday season by visiting her seasonally decorated gallery where holiday spirit can be found along with light refreshments and the traditional hot cider. Blowing Rock Christmas in the Park: The annual Christmas in the Park and Lighting of the Town will take place, as always, in Downtown Blowing Rock. The festivities will begin in Memorial Park off of Main Street with a visit from the one and only Santa Claus from 2-4 p.m. at the gazebo.  To read the entire article on this event, click here

Opening Day for Beech Mountain Resort:  Beech Mountain Resort announced this morning that the opening day for the 2013-14 season will be Nov. 29. To read the article on this event click here

West Jefferson’s Hometown Christmas: The celebration will be held in Downtown West Jefferson. Admission is free for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree, with santa and treats, carolers and hot chocolate for everyone. 

Chetola’s Festival of Lights: Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock begins its annual Festival of Lights with cookie decorating, carriage rides around Chetola Lake and a visit from Santa Claus. The festival continues until Jan. 26, 2014. 

Saturday, Nov. 30

Blowing Rock Christmas Parade: This year Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation will be organizing the annual Christmas Parade for the Town of Blowing Rock. The parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. in downtown Blowing Rock with the line up beginning at noon.

Santa at Todd Mercantile: Come join us for Shop Small Saturday. Bring the kids down to the Mercantile to meet our special guest – Santa! Plus, we’ll have free hot chocolate and cookies for the little ones (and Santa of course!) and we’re having a big sale that day so you can get all your holiday shopping done in one stop. Santa will be at the store from 10:00am – 2:00pm so be sure to save the date! If you want, we will also be taking pictures that you can download off the internet.

Thanksgiving Kiln Opening: Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Traditions Pottery opens their famous wood kiln and sells these heritage pieces to the public. Ensemble Stage Presents “It’s A Wonderful Life”: “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a production that has been called America’s Christmas Carol, will be showing on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. Performed in the style of a radio drama, this performance is a treat for anyone looking to kick off their holiday traditions with something a little different. 7th Annual Beech Mountain Holiday Market: The 7th Annual Beech Mountain Holiday Market will take place from 9AM – 3PM on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Start your holiday shopping early as you browse through a wide selection of one-of-a-kind gifts and hand-crafted items including: copper/steel art work; pottery; woodwork; wire, glass and pearl jewelry; yarn art and accessories, gourmet food, gift basket and much more.
There is more to do than just shop at the market. Free samples and craft demos add to the fun along with a cookie decorating station. Santa will be on hand for photos and to hear everyone’s wish list. Come join us for a traditional kickoff to the holiday season. Admission is free and there will be hourly door prizes!

The Last Watauga County Farmers’ Market: Every Saturday morning from May to November you will find quality locally farmed meats, fresh produce, artisan cheeses, dried and fresh cut flowers, hardy local plants, delicious edibles, and a wide variety of quality crafts.

A Celtic Christmas: Al Petteway (guitar and banjo) is a Grammy Award winner. Amy White is a composer, instrumentalist (piano, mandolin, Celtic harp), and singer. Collectively, their music has appeared on numerous PBS programs produced by Ken Burns, including Mark Twain, The National Parks, The Dust Bowl, The Roosevelts, and others. For this special Christmas concert, they will draw from a broad array of old-English, Celtic, and traditional carols.

Ashe County Holiday Farmers Market: Lots of goodies for the holidays at the Ashe County Holiday Markets. The market is located in downtown West Jefferson. 

Advent Festival: The Boone United Methodist Church will hold a free Advent Festival with stations set up for participation such as adult advent wreaths, and Christmas crafts for children of all ages at the Family Life Center in the Church on New Market Boulevard.
