How much has it rained today in other regions of the High Country – as of approximately 7:30 p.m.?

  • Banner Elk – 1.34 inches
  • Sugar Mountain – 2.67 inches

So what’s the weather forecast for the next day or two?

“You’re looking at it,” David Still, a local meteorologist with Ray’s Weather, said, adding that a steady and heavy rain will likely continue tonight with on-and-off heavy showers for the Fourth of July.

In its latest Flash Flood notice released at about 4 p.m., the National Weather Service said a Flash Flood Watch is now in effect through Thursday evening for Watauga and Ashe counties.

“Bands or clusters of showers and thunderstorms may produce rainfall rates of up to three inches per hour,” the watch reads.
