July 10, 2012. Tyler Winkler, son of Dean and Gina Winkler, attended the week-long Resource Conservation Workshop at North Carolina State University in Raleigh the week of June 24-29. This workshop is sponsored by the Watauga Soil and Water Conservation Disctrict, in conjunction with NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, other agencies and NCSU.

The RCW is a week-long intensive study and hands-on conservation workshop requiring student application and participation in a wide range of conservation topics, such as soil characteristics and soil conservation, wildlife and fisheries management and nonagricultural uses for soils.

Tyler will be a junior at WHS this fall and is now serving as President of the Watauga Future Farmers of America chapter. He is the youth representative on the Elk Knob Community Heritage Organization and works on farms in the community. He is very much interested in the environment and taking care of our natural resources.

In Tyler’s report to the Boards, he thanked the members very much for the educational opportunity to attend the workshop and learn about our natural resources, He felt it will be instrumental in determining his future career.

The Watauga Soil and Water District Board nominated Tyler to attend the workshop and funds were provided through the Bill Edmisten Memorial Fund which is administered by the Farmland Preservation Advisory Board.
