WHS Gets ‘Seussical’ With Spring Musical Tonight

March 23, 2012. Watauga High School’s Ross Auditorium came alive with the sights and sounds of Seussical the Musical on the evening of March 22. The musical will continue tonight, March 23, and tomorrow, March 24, with both performances starting at 7:00 p.m.

“It’s a fast and fun show that involves more than 100 students and over a dozen teachers and community volunteers,” said director Sarah Miller. “Seussical the Musical weaves the plot lines of several beloved Dr. Seuss stories into a funny, moving and whimsical story that encourages us to be brave, caring, adventurous and creative. We have an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic cast and we are so proud of their work!”

The music for this former Broadway production was described by The Guide to Musical Theatre as “a Seussian gumbo of musical styles” that features pop, Latin, swing, rhythm and blues, funk and more.

In addition to the musical, there will also be a “Green Eggs and JAM” benefit dinner from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at WHS featuring green eggs, sausage, bacon and pancakes. There will also be live music and Seussical characters at the dinner. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children in advance, and $7 for adults and $5 for children at the door. All proceeds from the dinner go to the Proctor family, a family of four from the Cove Creek area that lost their home to a fire. To reserve tickets to the dinner, call (828) 264-2407.

The spring musical at Watauga High School is always a highlight of the year and the tradition has continued with Seussical the Musical. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and went on sale Thursday, March 15. They are available during both lunches (11:40 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.) in the WHS lobby. Proceeds from the show benefit the Watauga High School Theater Department.
