Watauga County Community Foundation Awards $19K in Local Grants To 10 Recipients

The board of advisors of the Watauga County Community Foundation announces $19,000 in awards from the Watauga Legacy Fund, its community grantmaking fund, according to Ryan Postlethwait, WCCF Board President.

This year’s nonprofit recipients include:

  • Blue Ridge Conservancy for Public Educational Hikes
  • Children’s Council of Watauga County for the Family Literacy Program
  • Horse Helpers, INC for Equine Wellcare Costs
  • Lettuce Learn for the Learning Garden project
  • Preserve Heritage Agriculture & Regional Markets NOW for the Winter Farmers Market
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC for Watauga County Partner Agency Support
  • The Children’s Playhouse for Scholarship Memberships
  • Valle Crucis Community Park for the Welcome and Environmental Education Center
  • WAMY Community Action, Inc. for the Healthy Homes project
  • Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge for the Coat Drive/Basic Buckets project

Postlethwait thanked the community for support of the Watauga County Community Foundation.  “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” he said.  “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported the Watauga Legacy Fund.”

The Watauga County Community Foundation was created in 1993 and has 28 endowment funds with total assets of over $3 million. In 2014, WCCF distributed nearly $100,000 in grants and scholarships. Over the past 20 years, WCCF’s 28 endowment funds have distributed more than $1 million in grants and scholarships supporting local nonprofits and students.

The Watauga County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation. Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the Watauga Legacy Fund, which is administered by the NCCF. Contributions should be made payable to the Watauga Legacy Fund and mailed to PO Box 524, Boone, NC 28607. Contributions can also be made online atwww.nccommunityfoundation.org.
