Watauga Arts Council Announces Winners of 2nd Annual Juried Exhibition; Mark Nystrom takes First Place

April 23, 2012. The Watauga County Arts Council recently announced the winners of the second annual Juried Exhibition. 

1st Place: Mark Nystrom for his wind drawing, titled “Winds, September 19, 2010/Greensboro, NC

Mark Nystrom’s artwork explores visualizations of complex information and includes drawings, installations, projections and screen-based projects. His work has been shown in Asheville, Raleigh, Boston, New York, Philadelphia and other cities across the United States. In 2010, prints of his wind drawings were on exhibit at the Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro where he also showed a wind drawing being rendered in real time using weather instruments placed on the roof of the building. In the spring and summer of 2012, another real-time wind drawing will be on display as part of the Prime Time: New Media Juried Exhibition at the Asheville Art Museum.

Nystrom is an assistant professor in the Department of Art at Appalachian State University.
