Visit the Apple Barn Aug. 11 For a Magical Evening of Contra Dance; Beginner Lesson at 7:30 p.m., Dance at 8

Aug. 3, 2012. Looking for fun? Are you 16-years-old, 37, 85 or somewhere in between? Contra is a mixed-age community dance, and there will be a lesson before the dance so you can learn. Great live music is always a part of the Apple Barn scene.

The Boone Country Dancers are hosting a Contra Dance at the Apple Barn on Saturday, August 11. Dean Snipes is the caller for this dance and the Contra Cowboys are the band. All dances are taught, no partner is required and everyone is welcome. The beginners lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. and the dance at 8 p.m. There’s also a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. before the dance, so bring a dish to share and a plate and utensils for your personal use. Admission to the dance is $7.

Contra dances are arranged in long paired lines of couples. A pair of lines is called a set. Sets are generally arranged so they run the length of the hall, with the top or head of the set being the end closest to the band and caller. Correspondingly, the bottom or foot of the set is the end farthest from the caller.

The Apple Barn is in Valle Crucis just off Hwy 194, 1 mile from Valle Crucis School. If you have questions or need directions call  828-406-0580 or visit www.boonecountrydancers.org.
