Trio Arrested for Numerous Break-ins, Thefts in Watauga County Since August

On Aug. 20, 2015, Sept. 12, 2015, Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, 2015, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received reports that several residences in Watauga County were broken into and numerous items including electronics, jewelry, tools, safes and firearms were stolen.

Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation into the incident.

Interviews were conducted with numerous individuals and as a result of the investigation the following individuals were charged and arrested:

Allen Lee Coffey, 31, of 128 Kerley Drive in Boone; Avery M. Ellis, 18, 1802 Silverstone Road in Vilas; and Jacob Grange Shook, 31, of 476 Hardaman Circle in Boone

Coffey was charged and arrested on Oct. 19, 2015, with four counts of Breaking and Entering, four counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering, one count of Larceny of a Firearm and one count of Possession of Stolen Goods.  He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of Nov. 25, 2015 and is currently being held in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $35,000.00 secured bond.

Avery M. Ellis was charged and arrested on Oct. 20, 2015, with three counts of Breaking and Entering, three counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering and one count of Possession of Stolen Goods. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of Nov. 25, 2015 and a secured bond of $26,000.00.

Jacob Shook was charged and arrested on Oct. 19, 2015, with one count of Breaking and Entering, one count of Larceny After Breaking and Entering and one count of Larceny of a Firearm. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of Nov. 25, 2015 and a unsecured bond of $10,000.00.

Sheriff Hagaman reports that additional charges are pending in these incidents.
