June 11, 2014. The 20th Annual High Country Bead, Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show will take place at the Boone National Guard Armory on June 20, 21 and 22. The show will last from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22.

Jewelry makers, mineral dealers, fossil dealers, goldsmiths and silversmiths from all over the country will be present to sell jewelry and to offer their services to customers. They will reconstruct and repair jewelry as well as design and craft original jewelry from customer-selected gems, stones, opals and crystals.

Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 16. Tickets are good for all three days of the event.

Door prizes submitted by one of the many craftspeople will be given out every hour and a grand prize stoned ring will be given out at the end of the event. Also, all children will be given a free package of tumbled stones.

Wire wrappers and wire sculptors will also be present in addition to the many smiths. Wire wrapping is done using tools to shape metal wire around precious minerals and wire sculpting is done entirely by hand without the use of tools.

The show is hosted every year by Treasures of the Earth Gem & Jewelry Shows which hosts similar shows all over the country. Van A. Wimmer, the Show Director for the event stresses the rarity of what the show has to offer.

“Most of what we sell is one of a kind. We have a lot of unusual stones. One of the really rare ones we have is larimar.”

“And repairs, [for instance], are rare. It’s an art that’s disappearing. There’s only one man in [an area] doing repairs.”

This is a large, all-encompassing mineral event and the only one hosted by Treasures of the Earth in North Carolina, so take this rare opportunity to come and see a multitude of equally rare stones, metals and craftspeople.
