Transport 101 Workshop

Press Release from the Watauga Humane Society:

“Transportation and transfer of shelter dogs from one shelter or rescue organization to another is gaining momentum all over the country as a great common-sense way to save the lives of more shelter dogs.”

Melissa Bahleda, M.A.T., C.B.C, has a special touch with canine-human connections. Melissa has been training, fostering and working with shelter dogs for over 20 years. Melissa was recently selected as one of Glamour Magazine’s and Toyota’s “Women of the Year,” receiving the 2007 Mountain Mover Award for her work with animals. Education and her love for dogs led Melissa to certification in Canine Training and Behavior Counseling from the Animal Behavior Center of New York. Melissa and her three adopted ‘canine partners’ have a goal of teaching other human-canine partnerships how to build life-long relationships based on compassion, education and mutual understanding.

On Tuesday, March 27th, from 6:30-8:30pm, please join Melissa Bahleda in her Transport 101 Workshop, a 2 hour, interactive workshop at the Watauga Humane Society in Boone, NC.

The Transport 101 Workshop is designed to help animal shelter and rescue organization staff and volunteers make good choices when selecting dogs for transport and when conducting the actual transports themselves. The workshop is appropriate for organizations and individuals who wish to either begin a transport/transfer program, or for those already engaging in transport programs but who may need some ‘fine tuning’ for their program. The content covers everything from breed selection and assessing for behavior/screening for aggression, to conducting humane, safe transports, appropriate record keeping and follow-up.

Workshop attendees will be provided with forms and materials essential to any good transport/transfer program. We will also take some time to view real dogs in a shelter setting to help in your decision-making process when determining who would be appropriate for transport/transfer, and who would not.

The workshop is free but donations will be gladly accepted (donations will be used for PARTNERS! Canines’ rescue transport efforts, and for the care and shelter of the animals at the Watauga Humane Society).

To register, please contact the Watauga Humane Society, 828.264.7865 or email adopt@wataugahumanesociety.org.
