Tour the Moses Cone Manor and Meet Some Taxidermied Animals with the Blue Ridge Parkway Rangers July 11-15

July 9, 2012. Blue Ridge Parkway Ranger Programs July 11 – 15 are all free and open to the public thanks to the financial support of Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, Eastern National, and Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Join a ranger for a tour of the second floor of the beautiful, former home of Moses and Bertha Cone or stop at the Linn Cove Viaduct and meet a ranger with a few animal taxidermies all at the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.

Saturdays and Sundays

Flat Top Manor Upstairs Tours

Join a ranger for a tour of the second floor of the beautiful, former home of Moses and Bertha Cone. Tours are held Saturdays and Sundays and last about 45 minutes. Tours will end the weekend of October 21, 2012.

Tour Days & Times: Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and afternoons at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Reservations Required: Accepted on a first-come basis by phone or walk-ins: There are a limited number of persons allowed on each tour. Please call 828-295-3782 or sign up at the NPS information desk at the Moses Cone Manor House. (Reservations are accepted beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday for the weekend of the requested tour only).

 

Saturday, July 14 at 6 p.m. (Meet at Bass Lake)

“Waterfowl Walk”

All birds engage in behaviors that are beneficial for their survival such as bathing, feeding and even hiding. Join a ranger for a walk around Bass Lake to observe the waterfowl in their daily routines.

Maples, Hemlocks, Poplars and more! Can you find these trees in your own front lawn? Join a ranger and learn how we as tenants of the earth can do our part at preserving our treemendous treasures and natural heritage: Our Trees!

 

Sunday, July 15 at 7 p.m.

Julian Price: “A Man with a Dream”

Join a ranger for an evening stroll around Price Park Lake. Hear the story of a man who loved the natural beauty and restful solitude of the mountains, and how his dream was to share this beauty with others. Approximately 1 hour.

 

Linn Cove Visitor Center – Milepost 304.4 

Wednesday, July 11 at 3 p.m.

“A Nature Walk”

Meet at the Linn Cove Visitor Center to join a ranger for a 2-mile, round trip hike to the Stack Rock area. We’ll keep our eyes open to the unique wildflowers, fungi, and trees that call Grandfather Mountain “home.”

 

Friday, July 13 at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Talk with a Ranger and Meet some Mountain Critters!

As you’re cruising along the parkway, stop at the Linn Cove Viaduct and meet a ranger with a few animal taxidermies (Great- Horn Owl, Red Fox, Wood Duck and Gray Squirrel). Learn some interesting facts about the wildlife that call the Blue Ridge forest their “home.”

 

Saturday, July 14 at 2 to 4 p.m.

Talk with a Ranger and Meet some Mountain Critters!

As your cruising along the parkway, stop at the Linn Cove Visitor Center and meet a ranger with a few animal taxidermies (Raccoon, Wild Turkey, Red-Tail Hawk and Coyote). Learn some interesting facts about the wildlife that call the Blue Ridge forest their “home.”
