Todd Bush Shares Photos of Geminid Meteor Shower From Wednesday Night

Photos by Todd Bush

Last Wednesday night and Thursday morning were good for viewing the annual Geminid Meteor Shower. Though the gusty high winds (note blurry trees) at elevations of the High Country dropped the feel of the temperature a bit. The meteors in this shower appear to come from a radiant in the constellation Gemini. They are thought to originate from an astroid unlike most major meteor showers associated with debris from comets.

Geminids Moon Morning was on Thursday, 12.14.17 with Moon and Jupiter rising in the lower right with a hint of pre-dawn glow. Geminids Orion Evening was filmed during the evening of Wednesday, 12.13.17 looking east with skyglow after sunset toward the lights of Boone from Banner Elk, NC.

Both photos are composites of a handful of keepers from sequences of 20 second exposures imaged through around an hour’s time.
