Threatening Weather Later Today Has Schools Closed in Watauga and Avery Again Tuesday

Threatening weather later today has closed schools in Watauga and Avery again today – this now being the third school day in a row. Watauga County Schools’ Weather Team statement said “Due to a likelihood for snow and ice covered roads in the district for today, schools in Watauga County will be closed for students on Tuesday, December 12th.  It will be an Optional Teacher Workday..” Ray’s Weather is forecasting a couple of inches of snow accumulating throughout the day with a strong cold front that is crossing the region this morning. The National Weather Service has also issued an alert for strong winds and cold temperatures that could put wind chill temperatures below zero tonight. Yesterday afternoon schools were expected to open on a two hour delay but that decision was updated this morning to keep schools closed today.
