Oct. 4, 2012. This year’s invitational show, featuring thirty of the region’s best potters and ceramic artists holds its annual sale in the historic Cross Street Building in downtown Spruce Pine on Oct 13-14.
This year’s artists include Shawn Ireland, Bandana Pottery, Jane Peiser, Michael Rutkowsky and Sedberry Pottery, among others. Based in Mitchell and Yancey Counties, these artists organize themselves for the annual invitational event, which boasts several thousand visitors a year. Work includes contemporary functional pottery, figurative sculpture and tiles.
“At this special gathering you can meet many more artists in one afternoon than you otherwise are able during a studio tour,” says Toe River Arts Council Executive Director Denise Cook. Tourists and county residents alike will enjoy this opportunity to experience the diversity of the region’s talent and personalities, including North Carolina Living Treasure Cynthia Bringle, who will be in attendance this year. “Meeting your neighbors who have reached this phenomenal status in the world of arts and crafts creates pride for this sense of place,” says Cook. “It also gives young people inspiration and a sense of possibility for creating a living through their life-long passions.”
Admission is free, with artists selling their work from 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. Light breakfast and lunch options will be available. SPPM is an affiliate organization of Toe River Arts Council.
