The Greater Avery “Tour de Art” Gallery Hop Continues with Seven Participating Studios and Galleries

Oct. 24, 2014. The Greater Avery Tour de Art gallery and studio hop continues this weekend at numerous galleries in the greater Avery County area. The Tour is held every fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and maps can be found at at each gallery along the way. Treat yourself to a self guided tour around the Avery County area and enjoy a day full of art, crafts and fun.

Participating this year are Alta Vista Gallery, Carlton Gallery Fine Art and Toni Carlton Studio, Kevin Beck Studio, Linville River Pottery with Patti Conner Greene, Sally Nooney Studio and Gallery, Art Purveyors with studio of Mike Hill and Studio 140.

Visit Carlton Gallery to view the styles of fiber art, basketry and the diverse collection of fine art by local and regional artists in the 32nd Autumn Group Exhibition. View the ongoing “Art Songs of the Heart” exhibition by Toni Carlton. Both Exhibitions continue through Nov. 22. Also showcased are traditional and abstract paintings, sculpture, glass, wood, clay and fine jewelry by the talented local and regional artisans represented by the gallery. The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville or Banner Elk on N.C. 105 in the Foscoe/Grandfather Mountain community near the entrance to Seven Devils. Alta Vista Gallery in Historic Valle Crucis has a new show hanging now through mid-November  —  “This is My Father’s World —  Palette Knife Oils by Amos Westmoreland.”   Meet the artist at the gallery on Saturday, Oct. 25,  from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Refreshments will be served.   Please Forward this to your friends!  There’s still plenty of leaf color up here, so come enjoy the colors inside the gallery and outside! Alta Vista Gallery is located minutes from Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk, in a National Register historic farmhouse at 2839 Broadstone Rd. in Historic Valle Crucis — between Mast Farm Inn and Mast Store Annex. Please e-mail, or call the gallery at 828- 963-5247, if you have questions or need more information.

At Kevin Beck Studio, art lovers can browse paintings of the Blue Ridge created en plein air, many of which were painted on location, and have a chance to meet the artist during the Tour de Art. Beck paints the landscape in a traditional manner using a palette of gold and orange with the blue mountain range in the background. He paints in oils and pastels, allowing for a unique interpretation of the landscape. Kevin Beck Studio is located at 1590 Shulls Mill Rd. in Boone. For more information, call 828-963-1181.

Linville River Pottery studio is the working clay studio of Patti Connor-Greene. Here, she designs and creates stoneware and porcelain teapots, vases, mugs and bowls , handmade on a kick-wheel. In her artist’s statement Connor-Greene said, “Using stoneware and porcelain, I throw on a kick-wheel, and then paddle, carve, or facet the pot.  Because mugs, bowls, and cups spend so much time in their user’s hands, I carve deep texture into these pieces to engage your sense of touch as you sip your morning coffee or spoon your favorite ice cream. I hope my pots will lead active, useful lives.” Linville River Pottery is located at 2180 Goose Hollow Rd. in Pineola. Sally Nooney Gallery features the work of artist Sally Nooney. Sally Shelton Nooney is an accomplished artist whose work is influenced by the beauty of nature and wildlife. Her work reflects her love of gardening, decorating, animals and the outdoors. Sally frequently paints in oils, watercolor and acrylic and she believes each medium speaks to the viewer in a different way. The Studio of Mike Hill at Art Purveyors World HQ displays illustrations and mixed media by designer and illustrator Mike Hill. The studio has offed fine art publishing, creative services, fine prints, art-o-mat, a frame shop and a full line of paint, brushes, paper and fine art supplies since its opening in 1989. Studio 140 is the studio of David Banegas and Kent Paulette. The open studio provides a space for the community to come by and see the artists at work and the artists enjoy talking with people and explaining their creative process. The artists paint at Studio 140 and also next door at Sorrento’s, The Sushi Club, Barra, and outside to further include the community in the artistic process.
