July 8, 2013. The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games have been a High Country tradition since 1956. On Friday night from 7 until 11 p.m., join the clans at MacRae Meadows at Grandfather Mountain for the Celtic Jam concert, which presents a blend of our own Southern Appalachia music with the traditional sounds of Celtic folk.

The concert’s lineup includes Tuatha Dea, Cutthroat Shamrock, Ed Miller, Barleyjuice, Rathkeltair, Thistledown Tinkers, Colin Grant Adams, Chelsea House Orchestra, Lisa Lynn & George Tortorelli and Celtica Pipers Rock. The show is produced by Celtic Force Enterprises.

Ed Miller of Edinburgh, Scotland creates an acoustic spin on traditional Celtic folklore. Another acoustic performance by Thistledown Tinkers blends the sound of the Appalachian banjo with Scottish sounds. Lisa Lynn & George Tortorelli play a beautiful acoustic mix with the flute and harp.

Cutthroat Shamrock, Baryleyjuice, Celtica Pipers Rock and Rathkeltair combine conventional Celtic jams with modern rock for an upbeat twist. Tuatha Dea brings in the contemporary front using a myriad of instruments including guitar, bass, primitive drums and Native American flutes. Tuatha Dea is self-described as “pure primal energy with a Celtic twist.”

The Chelsea House Orchestra is comprised of students from Chelsea High School in Michigan. The eclectic band fuses folk and traditional Celtic music with a kick.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12, and only cash is accepted at the entrance. Arrive early if you plan on parking in the meadow, and the shuttle buses do not run on Friday night. Parking is not guaranteed to be available.
