Thanksgiving Through Christmas Celebrations and Events Beguile in Blowing Rock

There’s a lot going on in Blowing Rock, North Carolina’s Prettiest Small Town, between Thanksgiving and Christmas: It’s a fun, festive and family-friendly holiday destination. The Norman Rockwell-esque downtown sparkles with thousands of holiday lights, eclectic shops emit a welcoming glow and visitors smile warmly in the invigorating chill of the scenic High Country.unnamed-17

Holiday season events and activities are too numerous to list in full, but here are a few highlights:

Thanksgiving Day Dining: Several restaurants and eateries will be open; reservations required for those with seating times. See a full list here.

Choose & Cut Christmas Trees: All area tree farms will be open starting the first weekend after Thanksgiving. See a full list here!

Events at Chetola Resort: Carriage rides on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend; Festival of Trees, Dec. 1 – 4; Festival of Lights, Thanksgiving through the end of January. Check out their website for more information.

Downtown Blowing Rock: Christmas in the Park and Lighting of the Town, including free hot chocolate and cider, Santa, hayrides and live music, Friday, Nov. 25. Holiday Stroll, a town-wide open house, Friday, Dec. 9, 5 – 8 p.m. Carolers, movie, Christmas concert. 

Wood-Fired Kiln Opening at Traditions Pottery: Saturday, Nov. 26 – One of only two wood-fired kiln events at Traditions; special pieces include Santa-faced jugs and other holiday-themed pottery. For more information, go to Blowing Rock website.

An Ensemble Christmas: A holiday musical variey show put on by Blowing Rock’s professional theater company, Ensemble Stage. The show is based on the Andy Williams and Bing Crosby television shows of the ‘60s and ‘70s. December 17 and 18 at Appalachian State University.
