Sunny Ledfurd Plays Canyons Tonight; Hip Hop, Rock and Old Country Influences; Likely to Sell Out

Sunny Ledfurd returns to Blowing Rock to play at Canyons on Friday, March 23. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., and the cover charge is $10.

Influenced by hip-hop, rock ‘n’ roll and old-school country music, Ledfurd cites Snoop Dog, David Allen Coe and Guns N’ Roses as musical inspirations. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and raised in Gaston County, Ledfurd has been touring the country for nearly a decade playing his brand of rock ‘n’ roll.

“It’s not hip-hop and it’s not country,” Ledfurd said. “The safest thing to call it is rock ‘n’ roll. It definitely rolls and it’s gonna rock.”

He has performed on stage with David Allen Coe, recorded with Colt Ford and opened for Eminem and D12. Usually a full band plays with him—bass, two guitars, drums and the occasional saxophone and harmonica. For the Canyons show, Ledfurd will play an acoustic guitar alongside drummer Brandon Degraffenreid.

“Expect a real stripped down kind of [show],” he said.

Ledfurd has released seven albums, and he played all the instruments on those recordings. With songs titles like “I Don’t Remember Last Night,” “Adderral,” “Red Bull and Vodka,” partying is a frequent thing in his songs. His website bio states, “Never one to shy away from a good time…drinking and women are involved in much of the music.”

Not signed to a record label, all of his albums are self produced and self released. Seven of his songs on YouTube have more than 100,000 views, and his most recent album is titled Greatest Hits 2003-2009

Ledfurd said the internet has made it possible for him to market his music and that he is “very grateful” to be playing music for a living.

“I just like to have a good time,” Ledfurd said. “I really enjoy [playing music] and the fact that the audience seems to enjoy it, too. I have fun, and they have fun.”
