by Madison V. Fisler

July 31, 2013. It’s that time of year again. Time to get ready for beer tastings, wine samples, live entertainment, spirits tastings, delicious food and much more. That’s right. It’s time for SugarBrew!

imgresThe much-anticipated festival, held more than 5,000 feet up at Sugar Mountain Resort on Saturday, Aug. 6, is something that many across the High Country, and more still from off the mountain, look forward to each year. Running from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., guests will be able to sample beers, wines, and this year even spirits while enjoying the breathtaking views of Sugar Mountain.

Ski lift rides to the 5,300 foot summit of Sugar Mountain will be available for guests in attendance starting at 10 a.m., and those looking for some live entertainment will find many local favorites taking the stage including Soul Benefactor, The King Bees and The Johnson Brothers starting at noon.

This year, as with every year, guests will get to sample beers, wines and even spirits from many breweries large and small.

Breweries this year include:

  • Huske Hardware House Restaurant and Brewery
  • The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
  • Blind Squirrel Brewery
  • Flat Top Brewing Company
  • Thomas Creek Brewery
  • Oskar Blues Brewery
  • Carolina Brewery
  • Blue Point Brewing Company
  • and many more!

Wineries this year include:

  • Waldensian Style Winery
  • Native Vines Winery
  • Flint Hills Vineyards
  • Thistle Meadow Winery
  • Ginger Creek Vineyards
  • Wood Mill Winery
  • and many more

New this year are spirits tastings, which will include Cardinal Gin and Troy & Sons Whiskey

Aside from the tastings and the spectacular live entertainment, guests can also enjoy some top-notch eats. This year, guests can indulge in hot dogs (spicy dogs, coney dogs, slaw dogs, bacon cheese dogs and more), Certified Angus Beef hamburgers, sodas, fresh squeezed lemonade, Blue Ridge Ice Cream, funnel cakes and curly fries from Alf’s Concessions, and popcorn (kettle, carmel, sweet and spicy, apple and chocolate).

Tickets for this year’s SugarBrew are $30 online in advance here or $35 at the event, which includes tastings at the tasting pavilion from noon through 6 p.m.

The entire SugarBrew event is located at The Sugar Mountain Resort at 1009 Sugar Mountain Drive in Sugar Mountain.
