Snow Causes Area Schools to Delay, Close

Feb. 20, 2012. WATAUGA & AVERY COUNTIES — After a recent round of wintry weather on Feb. 19, some area schools were forced to delay or close this morning.

Watauga County Schools are closed for students and it will be an optional annual leave day for teachers. The snow day program at Hardin Park opened at 7:30 a.m. Avery County Schools are also closed for students. It is an optional workday for staff on a two-hour delay.

Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute’s Watauga campus is operating on a delay and will open at 12 p.m.

Appalachian State University opened at 8 a.m. and is operating on a regular schedule. All AppalCART buses are running normal routes except for POP 105, which will not service the CCC&TI campus.

According to raysweather.com, Boone had received 2.8 inches of snow by 7 p.m. last night. Snow showers continued overnight.
