Dec. 18, 2014. The secured-bond amount for the 19-year-old male who was charged on several counts after luring a five-year-old girl into the Michael’s bathroom a week ago has increased to $1 million. This change came a few days before a second family stepped forward reporting that a similar incident involving William Francis Grubb of Hopewell Church Road occurred inside a local retail business.

After the initial arrest on Dec. 13, investigators with the Boone Police Department said there was reason to “believe there may be other situations in which Grubb has lured children away from their parents in an attempt to gain sexual gratification.”

The Boone Police Department says that another family came forward yesterday reporting a similar incident involving Grubb, who is still in jail. The conditions of Grubb’s release were set on Monday, Dec. 15.

“Because of this new information, our Detectives have begun a new investigation to determine if additional charges are appropriate. We will be working with our District Attorney’s Office to make proper determination. At this point, it is unclear if the investigation will result in additional criminal charges for Grubb,” Boone Police Department Lieutenant Chris Hatton said in a release.

The Boone Police Department is once again asking anyone for the public’s assistance in this investigation. The public is asked to call Sgt. Osborne with the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6900 if they have information that could help in this case.

On Dec. 13, Boone Police responded to an abduction of a child at Michael’s in the Walmart shopping center after a family realized their daughter was no longer standing in proximity. The family eventually found their daughter and discovered that Grubb lured the child into the bathroom.

Grubb was arrested on Dec. 13 and charged with the following crimes:

  • One Count – Felony Abduction of a Child
  • One Count – Felony Indecent Liberties with a Minor
  • One Count – Felony Kidnapping
  • One Count – Felony Indecent Exposure

“This is the type of thing that every parent fears,” Boone Police Captain Andy LeBeau said after the first incident was reported. “I’m grateful for the quick actions of our officers in the apprehension of this person. Our officers and detectives will continue to investigate this matter. The Child Advocacy Center did, and will be, assisting in the investigation and assessing the needs of the child and her family.”
