July 24, 2012. Calling all Watauga and Avery girls: Bring your poles and a parent and enjoy a morning at Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm for the High Country Girl Scout Fishing Derby on Aug. 25. Find out what Girl Scouting is all about if you are not already one. Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm will provide all the materials and they will clean the fish for you to take home. Afterward, there will be a picnic.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25 with fishing and the picnic wrapping up around noon.
Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm is located at 10767 Highway 105 S, Banner Elk.
The cost is $6 per child/adult pair, $3 each for each additional girl in the family.
Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm charges $6 per pound to take it home to eat.
What to bring: a fishing pole ready to go if you have one, clothes that can get dirty, a chair (if wanted) and water bottles.
Registration forms need to be mailed to Amber Mellon at 154 Pond Road, Boone, NC 28607 by August 18.
Checks should be made payable to “Troop 10492.”
