Riders in the Sky: The Grammy Award-Winning Classic Cowboy Quartet Returns to Tweetsie Railroad Aug 10-11

July 24, 2013. The Blue Ridge Mountains will come alive this August with an entertaining blend of Western harmony and comedy at Tweetsie Railroad. Riders in the Sky, America’s Favorite Cowboys, will take the stage Aug. 10-11 to perform “The Cowboy Way” at North Carolina’s first theme park.

imgres-1Since 1977, the multi Grammy award-winning quartet has brought refreshing acoustic music and a wide repertoire of outrageous comedy, delivering entertainment guaranteed to entertain listeners of all ages and all musical preferences. Ranger Doug, “Idol of American Youth,” Woody Paul, “King of the Cowboy Fiddlers;” Too Slim, “A Man Aging Like Fine Cheese;” and Joey, “The Cow Polka King,” have enchanted audiences with songs full of rich American tradition. Legendary cowboy singers such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers provided the inspiration to this talented cowboy band. 

Riders in the Sky will perform daily at noon and 3 p.m. at Tweetsie Railroad. Once the quartet starts singing, Tweetsie visitors are mesmerized by the harmony of the musical cowboys. The group will perform songs like “Woody’s Roundup,” their Grammy-winning song from the movie Toy Story 2, as well as traditional Western favorites and the original Tweetsie Railroad themed music from their 2002 CD Ridin’ the Tweetsie Railroad.

Riders in the Sky has received much national acclaim, including a Grammy in 2001 for Best Musical Album for Children with Woody’s Roundup featuring Riders in the Sky, and again in 2003 for their album Walt Disney Record’s Monsters Inc.-Scream Factory Favorites

Riders in the Sky is credited with more than 6,000 shows, 300 national television appearances, 203 public radio shows, nearly 700 Grand Ole Opry appearances, more than 3 million miles on the road, three television series and 35 albums. 

After singing along to “The Cowboy Way” with Riders in the Sky, experience all Tweetsie Railroad has to offer including the Wild West Train Adventure, the Deer Park Zoo, amusement rides, Miner’s Mountain and live entertainment for all ages including the famed Diamond Lils Can-Can Revue in the Tweetsie Palace. 

Tweetsie Railroad will be open seven days a week through Aug. 18. The park returns to the weekend schedule from Aug. 19 through Nov. 3, including Labor Day Monday. The 2013 season ends Sunday, Nov. 3. The park’s regular hours are 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. Daily admission to Tweetsie Railroad is $37 for adults and $23 for children ages 3-12. Children two and under are admitted free. The Ghost Grain Halloween Festival will take place Friday and Saturday nights Sept. 27 through Nov. 2 from 7:30-11:30 p.m. when admission is $28 for adults and children.
