Rev. Bryan Pillsbury Receives Montreat College Alumni Award for Reflecting Montreat’s Mission

June 1, 2012. Rev. Bryan Pillsbury received the Montreat College Distinguished Alumni Award May 12. Each year Montreat College honors two alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award, an award given to individuals who successfully reflect the mission of Montreat College.

Fellow alumni submit nominations, sharing examples of how the nominee engages in service, transformation, renewal, and reconciliation in his or her local community and beyond. The College honored Pillsbury (’75) from the School of Arts and Sciences at the spring 2012 commencement on May 12.

Pillsbury graduated from Montreat-Anderson College (then a Junior College) in 1975. He earned his B.S. in psychology at Gordon College and his M.B.A. at Western Carolina University. For a time, Bryan returned to Montreat College, working in various capacities in athletics, student services, and admissions, part of which involved serving as the Resident Director of Davis Hall with his wife, Paige.

Bryan has served on staff at Mount Vernon Baptist Church for 25 years, currently as the Associate Pastor of Missions. He and Paige have five children: Rachel, Sarah, Preston, Nathan, and Richard. Bryan spends much of his time investing in the younger generations, discipling in Bible study, theology, and church planting. Bryan does much work with indigenous church planting movements with the majority of his travel taking Him to Cuba, the former Soviet Union, India, East Asia and the Middle East.

Montreat College is a Christ-centered liberal arts institution with its main campus for four-year traditional students in Montreat. The accelerated School of Professional and Adult Studies program has campuses in Asheville, Charlotte, and Black Mountain.
