$1 Million Bond Given To Registered Sex Offender: On School Property, Charged With Assault

On Oct. 2, 2015, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a registered sex offender was unlawfully on Parkway School premises.

Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation into the incident. Interviews were conducted and as a result of the investigation John Anthony Stines of 592 Idlewild Mountain Estates in West Jefferson was charged and arrested.

John Anthony Stines was charged and arrested on October 5, 2015 with one count of Sex Offender Unlawfully on Premises. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a secured bond of $10,000 and a court date of Nov. 23, 2015.

On Oct. 16, 2015, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a six year old juvenile had been sexually assaulted between the dates of Oct. 6, 2014 and June 3, 2015 at a residence located in Watauga County.

Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Watauga County Department of Social Services, and the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge conducted an investigation into the incident. Interviews were conducted with numerous individuals and as a result of the investigation Stines was charged and arrested.

 

John Anthony Stines was charged and arrested on Oct. 16, 2015, with four counts of Sexual Offense with a Child. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of Nov. 25, 2015 and is currently being held in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $1,000,000.00 secured bond.
