Put Your Pies to the Test; Homemade Berry Pies and Cobblers Scrupulously Judged at Ashe Farmers’ Market

July 16, 2012. Calling all Ashe County Berry Pie and Berry Cobbler bakers – once again it is time for the “Berry Pie/Berry Cobbler Contest” to be held on Saturday, July 21 at the Ashe County Farmers Market on the Back Street in West Jefferson.

Look for the events tent on the grassy area just behind the market and bring your homemade pies to be judged. The Rules and Entry Form is posted on the Ashe County Farmers Market Website – ashefarmersmarket.com.

The Official Rules of the Berry Pie/Berry Cobbler Contest:

1. Eligibility:

Contest is open to all Ashe County residents.

** Berry – any Berry (Blueberry, Blackberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, etc.) grown in Ashe County is eligibility.

2. Requirements:

No store bought pastry shells or fillings. Submit a copy of the recipe with your entry. Please use disposable bake ware. The Market will not be responsible for the return of bake ware. No items that need refrigeration or heating will be accepted. Pies must be at room temperature for judging. Limit two pies per contestant.

3. How to Enter:

Bring your homemade berry pie(s)/berry cobblers to the Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 21 between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Look for the tables under the events tent on the grassy area behind the market. Entry forms will also be available there or you may go on line at ashefarmersmarket.com.

4. Judging:

The judging will begin at 11 a.m. and will be conducted by local judges. Entries will be judged on the basis of taste and appearance.

5. Prizes:

One winner will be selected from the entries and awarded a $20 Ashe County Farmers Market gift certificate to be redeemed at the Market only through October 2012.
