Public Schools Closed in Watauga, Avery, See Other Delays In and Around the High Country

App State University

Classes that begin before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, are canceled. Classes that begin at 12:30 p.m. and later will be held as scheduled. The adverse weather policy is in effect until noon. More information

Watauga County Schools

Schools are closed for students and all 10-month personnel for Thursday, February 26th. The snow day program at Hardin Park will open at 9:00 a.m.

The “Parent Night” at Watauga High School scheduled for Feb. 24 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m.   A final decision about opening schools for an early release day on Saturday, Feb. 28 will be announced on Friday.

Avery County Schools

Due to rapidly deteriorating roads conditions across our county and the forecast for snow continuing throughout the night, the Avery County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, Feb. 26.  It is a “no day” for ten-month employees.  Eleven and 12-month employees may work on a two-hour delay or take an annual leave/vacation day.

“Snow Camp” at the YMCA will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Caldwell Community College (Watauga Campus)

The Watauga Campus has canceled day classes for Thursday, Feb. 26. A decision regarding evening classes will be made by 4 p.m.

AppalCART

Due to bad weather, AppalCART will not run until 11 a.m. on Thursday.
