ASU Chancellor, Football Coach Join WinterFest Parade to Celebrate Camellia Bowl Win

Riding in a black BMW, Appalachian State University Chancellor Dr. Sheri Everts, Athletic Director Doug Gillin and football Head Coach Scott Satterfield were all smiles as they showed off the 2015 Raycom Media Camellia Bowl championship trophy during Blowing Rock’s Winterfest parade on Saturday.

In its inaugural FBS bowl game in December, App State defeated Ohio University in Montgomery, Ala. The victory – and subsequent parade in Blowing Rock – capped a historic season, one that saw the Mountaineers become the first team every to win a bowl game in its first eligible season.

As for the parade, Satterfield said that the football program’s staff and players were all “overwhelmed” by the reception received on Saturday.

“Being a part of the Blowing Rock WinterFest parade was a great honor and thrill for our team. Everyone associated with our program, especially our student-athletes, was overwhelmed by the reception that we received,” Satterfield said in a statement on Monday. “We’re very appreciative to the town of Blowing Rock and the WinterFest organizers for inviting us to be a part of the parade and helping us celebrate a great season.”

Following the parade, App State Athletics tweeted: “Thanks to a great crowd for coming out to honor the #CamelliaBowl champs during @BR_Winterfest parade!!! pic.twitter.com/zhANR0BUhN.”

Chancellor Everts said “it was extraordinary to spend a beautiful January day in Blowing Rock celebrating the hard work of our students, faculty and staff.”

“Seeing our colleges and alumni represented and having our Camellia Bowl winning football team cheered along was a wonderful point of pride,” said Everts. “We are fortunate to live in an place of such spectacular beauty and to have strong community partnership and support. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Town of Blowing Rock for allowing us to be part of this special day.”
