Natty Greene’s Tasting
Peabody’s Wine & Beer Merchants – Aug. 7, 5-7 p.m.
So, what won out last week the glue tasting or the arts and crafts? I know we tricked you into trying new beer last week and you probably hate us all at Peabody’s. Never fear loyal followers, Chris let’s Natty Greene’s new face, Justin, bring on the goodness. A never before seen Baltic Porter stars in the show with the Freedom IPA, the Brown Ale and the Wild Flower Wit to shore up the rest.
Peabody’s holds a beer tasting every Tuesday and extends a 10 percent discount on all tasted beers.
Premier Wine Tasting Thursday: Mollydooker
Peabody’s Wine and Beer Merchants – Aug. 9, 5 to 7 p.m.
Aunt Wendy Dunn of Mutual will lead story time this Thursday with some awesome, awesome Aussie wines: the legendary Mollydooker by equally legendary winemaking couple Sarah and Sparky Marquis. For those not in the know, “mollydooker” is Aussie slang for a left handed person. We believe that Sparky is the lefty of the couple. Anyway, Wendy pops on up from Asheville to taste out the following:
The Violinist Verdelho $24.99
The Boxer Shiraz $26.99
Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz $54.99
Carnival of Love $75.99 (rather than $105.99)
This Thursday is not be missed. Experience serious wine with not so serious labels.
There is a $5 charge for the Premier Tasting along with 10 percent discount on all tasted wines and 15 percent off (that’s the case discount) on any 6-bottle increments of these wines using cash, check or debit. Three percent is added on with use of credit cards. In the event that we sell out of these wines, the special discounts will be upheld for any special orders placed Thursday night.
Peabody’s Wine & Beer Merchants – Saturday, Aug. 11, 12 to 5 p.m.
Ariel Tetterton of Juice brings back to the forefront some of my personal favorites from Spain: Pasion de Bobal (Bobal is the grape varietal) & Sicoris, a Tempranillo/Cab mash up with other grapes made as a side project by Castell del Remei for my friend Steve Miles. These wines are always great editions to take to dinner parties, especially priced at $13.99.
Then Ariel has a new Argentine producer under her wing, Recuerdo. The Torrontes grabbed Jeff’s attention in particular and it hits the sweet spot at $15.49. More wines will be updated later in the week. See you Saturday if not before.
Peabody’s hosts a free tasting every Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. A 10 percent discount is offered on tasted wines and a 15 percent standard discount on any full or mix-matched cases of wine using cash, check or debit. Three percent is added for use of credit cards.
Servin Burgundy Show
Peabody’s Wine & Beer Merchants – Tuesday Aug. 14 – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This event is held at the Courtyard by Marriott. Tickets are $25 per person, all inclusive. For reservations, call Peabody’s at 828-264-9476.
Peabody’s alongside their friends of Skyland Distributing hosts the Servin Portfolio tasting of fine white, red and sparkling wines of Burgundy, France. Twenty odd wines will be tasted from this region including Montrachets, Cote de Beaune Pinots and a myriad of others. Casa Rustica is kind enough to cater very heavy hors d’euvres for this event. Be a part of what we know will be a more than memorial evening of discussion and analysis of some very fine wines.
Other events
Aug.15, 4 to 8 p.m.
It’s a special Wednesday tasting with none other than the Anderson Valley Captains themselves. Trey and Charlie, the “Heads of State” at Anderson Valley Brewing, will be here to chat and meet and greet. We’ll taste Summer Solstice, Poleeko Gold, all your favorites and a “one-off” specialty keg that you are guaranteed to never have had before. We will be rolling out the red carpet, again, (if you remember the only other time these guys have come to NC, we packed 250 people inside the store in the middle of a blizzard!!) and show them why you guys buy more of their product than anyone else on the East Coast.
Aug. 21, 5 to 7 p.m.
Oskar Blues is in the House. Alex from Oscar Blues Brewing will be here pouring the gambit from an old favorite, but one of the newest additions to the North Carolina Brewing Scene. You are guaranteed to get some free Oskar Blues Goodies and Sample a flight to remember. Just to spice it up a bit, we’ll throw in a keg to taste of something insane like a barrel aged brew that….well, we’re just going to keep that one a secret.
August 27-3, 5 to 7 p.m. everyday
It’s the annual “Week of Tastings” leading up to the High Country Beer Fest. We’ve been waiting for this week all year long, and this year will be even bigger and better than any one you’ve ever attended. The list of breweries is being finalized and we’re getting pumped. Rest assured that every tasting will be something new and exciting and give you a chance to hang out with the some of the best brewing minds in the business. We will have some of the High Country Beerfest Guys at every event selling tickets, and we will give away tickets every day leading up to the Beerfest. This is one of the most fun weeks of the year and you do not want to miss it.
Tickets will be available soon for Peabody’s 34th Anniversary Charity Wine Tasting Expo on November 17 at Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
Peabody’s Wine & Beer Merchants is located at 1104 Hwy 105, Boone.
