May 2, 2014. When P.B. Scott’s was still in operation, there were certain bands that were booked on rotation to keep the tremendous crowds that they drew to the Blowing Rock club happy. The music hall drew quite a few famous names like Chairmen of the Board, Assassins, Gregg Allman, Ricky Skaggs, John Hartford, J.J. Cale, Sugar Creek, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Delbert McClinton and countless others.

“We were the only place in western North Carolina grabbing national acts at the time,” said Randy Kelly, who organizes the event, and was events manager at P.B. Scott’s when it was open.

“Except for solo performances in a few restaurants, we were one of the only real live music venues. We could sell out two shows in a night, with 700 people each. There were just some names that brought the crowds in and kept them on the dance floor all night.”

One of those bands was Brice Street, who just so happens to be headlining the 9th annual P.B. Scott’s Reunion on May 3 at Canyons in Blowing Rock.

“Brice Street is just one of those bands that really has the staying power,” Kelly said. “The band still has two of the three main vocalists. Brice Street is one of the favorite party bands. They are a timeless band that everyone really enjoyed, and I know they will enjoy them again at the party.”

North Carolina’s legendary Brice Street Band rocks on as a trio! Founding members Jack Atchison (drums and lead vocals) and Doug Dennis (bass and vocals) are joined by Jack King (guitar and vocals). Brice Street brings an eclectic list of popular songs from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

While there are sure to be many familiar faces at the event which boasted over 200 guests for previous reunions, those who never got a chance to enjoy the excitement of this legendary club are invited to come out and get a taste of what it was like.

Canyons is located at 8960 Valley Blvd. in Blowing Rock. For more information, call 828-295-7661 or visit canyonsbr.com.
