Multi-Disciplinary Camp, Photography Workshop Upcoming at Blowing Rock Art and History Museum in June

May 29, 2012. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is offering a variety of youth camps and adult workshops throughout the summer and fall, including “Fly High with Imagination” for ages 9-12, which will run be held 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 15 and a Digital Photography Workshop, which will be held 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in June (June 5-26).

“Fly High with Imagination” will be taught by retired Parkway School science teacher Lou Moore, who will combine science, art, creative writing, drama and more to teach about animal habitats in the area. Campers will gain inspiration from BRAHM’s mascot, the papier mâché bird by famous Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante that hangs just outside the Education Center. In addition to activities in the classroom, the camp will include a bird-watching safari around Blowing Rock.

“This is a multi-disciplinary camp that includes natural science, language arts and studio art,” said Educational Programs Coordinator Virginia Falck. “The kinds of activities that the children will be doing will improve their motor skills and critical thinking ability, as well as widen their world view.”

For adults, the Digital Photography Workshop will be taught by local photographer Lonnie Webster, who has documented beautiful landscapes, stunning architecture and enchanting faces in countries around the world. Students will learn basic photography essentials such as light usage, photo composition and file management. Each class will include guided practice and instruction. A personal digital camera is required.

Members receive a 10 percent discount on all camps. The cost of the “Fly High with Imagination” camp is $180 for the week ($162 for members). The Digital Photography Workshop costs $175 ($158 for members).
