June 1, 2012. “Rural Roots: Mountain Songs,” will be presented this Saturday, June 2, by Mountain Home Music. Featured will be Dana and Susan Robinson, two guitar-playing, banjo-frailing, fiddle sawing and harmony-singing interpreters of the American Experience.
“Like Woodie Guthrie, they have traveled and lived from coast to coast, from New England to the Pacific Northwest,” said Joe Shannon, host of Mountain Home Music. “In the process they met lots of folks and wrote many songs about their experiences.”
Dana and Susan Robinson moved to the North Carolina Mountains in 2002. But they spend a lot of time on the road. They are full-time musicians and they tour nationally and internationally.
“Their music and cleanly poetic songwriting bring to mind the great folksingers of our times…rural America explored with elegant simplicity,” Asheville Citizens Times said.
“Many songwriters have been heralded as modern day Woodie Guthries or keepers of the American rural spirit, but that mantle might be better entrusted to musicians like Dana Robinson who embody both the heart and soul of folk music,” Dirty Linen Magazine said.
Martin Moore, a hammer dulcimer player based in Boone, will also perform.
“For many years, on many occasions, visitors to the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, were welcomed by the music of Martin Moore,” said Joe Shannon. “Martin’s specialty is playing old-hymns on the hammer dulcimer.”
He currently has four CDs to his credit.
The concert will take place at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium in downtown Blowing Rock. Starting time is 8 p.m.
