Mountain Home Music Presents ‘Creative Country: Singers and Songwriters,’ Featuring Jeanne Jolly June 16

June 13, 2012. Jeanne Jolly sings. It’s her job. This Saturday night, June 16, she’ll go to work on the Mountain Home Music concert series. And she’ll sing. She’ll sing because it’s her job, and because it’s her passion.

Her passion was noticed while at Western Carolina University, while at the New England Conservatory of Music, while touring with Grammy Award winner Chris Botti and while recording with acclaimed songwriters Lowen and Navarro, and while playing venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Based in Los Angeles, she missed her North Carolina roots. In 2009, she returned home where she began working more on her own music and writing more of her own songs.

In 2010, Jeanne Jolly released Falling in Carolina, an album with a Carolina Country theme, where she is featured on vocals, baritone ukulele, piano and guitar. In response to Falling in Carolina, and also in response to her North Carolina performances, NC Metro Magazine awarded her “Best Local Musician” in 2010 and 2011.  Also in 2011, she was a featured artist at the International Folk Alliance in Memphis, Tenn.

About Jeanne Jolly, NC Metro Magazine said she embodies “the early belting power of Linda Ronstadt,” and MetroMusicScene in Virginia compared Jolly’s voice to “the delicate lilt of Allison Krauss.”  Chris Boerner (guitar), Ally Love (pedal steel), and Nick Baglio (drums) will join Jeanne Jolly for the concert.

This concert, “Creative County: Singers and Songwriters,” will also feature local singer Mary Greene.  She will sing well-known songs by well-known Appalachian singers and songwriters, such as The Carter Family and Scotty and LuLu Belle Wiseman.

The concert will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 170 Councill St., in downtown Boone (behind the Earth Fare Supermarket).  Starting time is 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for “Creative Country: Singer & Songwriters” are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.  Student tickets are $10 and a child’s ticket is $5.

Tickets may be purchased at the Mast Store (Boone and Valle Crucis), Fred’s Mercantile on Beech Mountain, Kudzu Music (formerly Rydell’s) in Boone and at Pandora’s Mailbox and the Dulcimer Shop, both in the Martin House on Main Street, downtown Blowing Rock.
