Spiders & Crafts

Monday, Nov. 12, 2 p.m.

Meet at the park office.

Join us for a fun kids-teaching-kids introduction to Spiders power point presentation at the Mt. Jefferson Park Office.

This program will include a brief introduction to the strange world of spiders as seen through the eyes of a 9-year-old naturalist. After the power point feature the program will include a kid’s spider craft.

 

Winter Night Hike to Luther Rock

Friday, Nov. 16, 6 p.m.

Meet at the park office.

Are you looking for an adventure after dark? Come on up to Mt. Jefferson for a breathtaking hike at night. Meet the park ranger for a 1-mile hike along the ridgeline out to Luther Rock. Bring a small flashlight and wear sturdy shoes. Parts of this hike are considered strenuous and hiking at night can be physically challenging. This program is designed for adults with good basic hiking skill. Children over 7 are welcome but must be closely supervised. Call to sign up 336 246-9653 email: Mount.Jefferson@ncdenr.gov.

 

Mt. Jefferson Geology Hike

Saturday, Nov. 24, 2 p.m.

Meet at the picnic shelter.

Mount Jefferson stands today at 4683 feet above sea level. Was this mountain once 15,000 feet high? Have there ever been any major rockslides on this metamorphic mountain? What is Amphibolite anyway? Meet a ranger for a 1-mile hike and explore some of the geological mysteries that make this mountain’s geology rock! Bring a jacket, and wear sturdy shoes.

 

Maps and Basic Orienteering for Kids

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2 p.m.

Meet at the picnic area.

Meet the park ranger at the picnic area for an introduction to maps, compass use, tally steps and contour lines. This program will explain the basics of land navigation. We will also take a short make hike up the mountain. Recommended for kids 9 years and older Parents must attend with children.
