A member of the ZAP Fitness community in Blowing Rock died on Monday after being struck by a car while running in Chattanooga, Tenn., over the weekend.

Cameron Bean, 28, was a ZAP Fitness resident-athlete from 2010 to 2015 and resided in Blowing Rock, according to a statement from ZAP Fitness, which provides a support system for world-class athletes to train.

The driver that hit Bean “told police that the sun got in her eyes, causing her to veer off the road where she hit Bean. Bean was wearing reflective running shoes and clothing and was running against traffic,” according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Police are still investigating the accident.

Bean was born in Chattanooga. He attended The Baylor School in Chattanooga and Samford University in Birmingham, Ala, before joining ZAP Fitness in Blowing Rock. He missed the Olympic trials by two spots in the 3000m steeple, among other athletic accolades, according to his bio.

“All of us at ZAP are heartbroken. Today, former ZAP resident athlete Cameron Bean, lost his life after being struck by a car while running Saturday evening. Cameron resided in Blowing Rock and was a ZAP team member from 2010-2015. He will be missed,” according to a statement from ZAP Fitness.
