Press Release from Appalachian Sports Information
April 20, 2012. For the fourth-straight year, Appalachian State University athletics, in conjunction with the High Country chapter of the March of Dimes, will host the annual March For Babies. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, April 22 at ASU’s Kidd Brewer Stadium. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and the event kicks off at 3 p.m.
In addition to raising funds and awareness for the March of Dimes’ mission of helping mothers reach full-term pregnancies and researching the problems that threaten the health of babies, the March For Babies is a fun-filled event for the whole family. While marchers make their way around the KBS track, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, inflatable rides and special activities will be available for kids of all ages. Dozens of ASU student-athletes will be on hand to lead the activities as well as sign autographs and take photos with fans.
Those wishing to participate in the fun for the whole family at the March For Babies can do so in four ways:
1) Join the ASU athletics’ March For Babies fundraising team by clicking HERE;
2) Join us at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sunday, April 22 and make a donation of $20 per family to participate in all the March For Babies fun;
3) Participate in the March of Dimes’ inaugural Race From THE ROCK 5K on the morning of Sunday, April 22. The 5K run starts at Kidd Brewer Stadium at 10 a.m. (registration at 9 a.m.) and costs only $25 per runner to participate. Click HERE for a registration form.
4) Participate in Appalachian baseball’s Home Runs For Babies program. Starting last Tuesday versus North Carolina A&T through the April 22 contest versus Furman, ASU baseball will donate $1 for each home run the Mountaineers hit. Prior to the March For Babies, come out to Smith Stadium for the Apps’ series finale versus Furman (which has been moved to NOON to allow fans to attend prior to the March For Babies) and match the donation made by the Mountaineers to that point. Head coach Chris Pollard will donate the funds at the March For Babies immediately following the game.
