May 21, 2012. On Sunday, May 20, a Vilas man who had been reported missing since last Wednesday was located at a hospital in Greensboro after apparently suffering a stroke or similar medical issue.

Mark Anthony Byrd, 39, was reported missing after he did not show up to pick his children up from school Wednesday afternoon. A bulletin was issued by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Department on Friday. The bulletin described him as a while male, approximately 40 years old, with multiple tattoos on his left arm and a large tattoo on his left shin. He was said to be driving a blue 2000 Ford Explorer.

Extensive searches, organized by part of the national Polly Klass organization, had taken place over the last several days since Byrd was reported missing.

According to reports, Byrd was disoriented Sunday and was not exactly sure how he had gotten there. His family went to Greensboro yesterday to reunite with him.

As more details come available about Byrd, this article will be updated.
