A logger died in an accident near 3986 Blackberry Road, which is several miles from Blowing Rock.

Deputies and an investigator with the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and first responders with Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue responded to the call on Wednesday morning.

The man died at the scene of the accident.

“The deceased was working for a logging company at the time of the incident. The deceased male was cutting a tree, and the tree bounced back onto him resulting in his death,” a shift report reads from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office.

The medical examiner and investigators with Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene, according to the report.

Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman hasn’t released the name of the deceased as of Thursday morning.

The is the second logging death to be reported in Watauga County since September, when Bobby Joe Jarvis, of Wilkes County, died after a tree fell on top of him near Elk Creek Road in Deep Gap.
