Oct. 29, 2012. Just under one week remains for 5th District high school seniors to seek a Congressional nomination for appointment to the United States’ military service academies. Applications for nomination must be postmarked to my Clemmons District Office (6000 Meadowbrook Mall, Suite 3, Clemmons, NC 27012) by Nov. 1, 2012.

Spending four years studying and preparing to serve the country at the United States Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy at West Point, Merchant Marine Academy, and Coast Guard Academy has been defining in the lives of so many young people.

Congressional nominations are required for all but the United States Coast Guard Academy. The nomination process is competitive.

Requirements: Applicants for nomination must be United States citizens, residents of the 5th District, and at least 17 years of age by July 1 of 2013 and no older than 23. Applicants also should be academically accomplished, proven leaders in their schools and communities, active in service, and committed to bettering themselves mentally and physically. Above all, they should be able to articulate their passion for serving the United States of America through an Academy appointment.

If you or a student you know is interested in pursuing a Congressional nomination, call 866-677-8968 and complete this application for postmark by Nov. 1.
