July 4 Bargain Book Sale Held at Banner Elk Town Park

June 25, 2012. With only a few more weeks of used book collections to go, the Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk is gearing up for its annual used book sale, this year set for July 4 at the Banner Elk Town Park. Several thousand used books, including fiction and non-fiction, text books, books about travel, religion, sports, cooking, humor, gardening and everything in between will be available at bargain prices at the one-day sale, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This means that time is short to clean your bookshelves and bring donated books for the sale to one of the big blue barrels located across the county: Banner Elk Post Office, Newland Post Office, Linville Post Office, Bank of America in Banner Elk, Beech Mtn. Town Hall, Linville Land Harbor and YMCA in Linville. Book prices range from 50 cents for a paper back to $1 for most cover books. Premium volumes of newer fictin and non fiction are $1. Toward the end of the sale, books are free – but shopping bags are sold for $1 to take them away. You can fill your bags up at this time with as many books as will fit inside.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Kiwanis Club of Banner Elks’ school book programs throughout Avery County. These programs include the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program in all elementary schools and book purchase requests made in conjunction with the club’s Woolly Worm grant program.
