July 12, 2012. The Newland Riverwalk Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Town of Newland and Newland Business Association, will feature free music this Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. rain or shine. The concert, featuring the Johnson Brothers has moved to the brand new Hugh Chapman center at the YMCA next to Cannon Memorial Hospital for this Friday’s show. The weather does not look good for an out door event.
Come to the show and experience what the new Chapman center has to offer. Thanks to the YMCA (This weeks show Sponsor) for offering this new and beautiful facility. The locally famous Johnson Brothers and their band will be entertaining with “Their Bluegrass Picking.”
Bring chairs. Fast Eddie and his Chicago Hot Dogs will be there also.
The Johnson Brothers provide a high-energy, family-oriented bluegrass show. Alan and Kenny have been playing bluegrass around the High Country for more than 25 years. Alan took his musical ability to Nashville and performed with the likes of Lorrie Morgan, Doug Stone, Doyle Lawson and many others.
Check the schedule for rock and roll, 70s and 80s jam bands or Southern rock and blues. If it rains, concerts will usually be at the Heritage Arts Center, located next to Sandee’s Restaurant, at the light in Newland. Vendors with hot dogs, pizza, sodas, water, desserts and more will be selling weekly. The concert series will showcase local Avery County talent via open mike during the 20-minute half-time break and weekly prizes are given out via drawings and trivia questions.
The concert series is powered by the Newland Business Association atwww.newlandbusiness.org.
