Jim Minick Visits Ashe County Farmers’ Market in West Jefferson for On the Same Page Literary Festival

Sept. 6, 2012. On Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at 10 am, the Ashe County Farmers’ Market is delighted to welcome author Jim Minick to their backstreet location in West Jefferson as part of the On the Same Page Literary Festival. The Festival, sponsored by the Ashe County Arts Council and the Ashe Public Library, is in its fifth year.

Minick is the author of “The Blueberry Years, A Memoir of Farm and Family.” This memoir tells the story of one of the first certified-organic, pick-your-own blueberry farms in the mid-Atlantic, and it won SIBA’s 2010 Best Nonfiction Book of the Year. Jim has also written a collection of essays, “Finding a Clear Path, and two books of poetry,” “Her Secret Song and Burning Heaven.”

In 2008, the Virginia College Bookstore Association awarded “Burning Heaven” the Jefferson Cup for Best Book of the Year. Jim teaches writing and literature at the Radford University in Virginia where he lives on a farm with his wife and three dogs.

Jim will read from his works, have a Question & Answer session with the audience, as well as offer selections of his books for sale.

Ashe County Farmers’ Market member/vendor Walter Clark of Old Orchard Blueberry Farm will introduce Jim at this event.

Minick’s presentation is funded in part by a Literary Arts Touring Grant from South Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, North Carolina Arts Council and the Ashe County Arts Council.
